Nothing too special, but entertaining to fly a bunch of older, weaker, UNSHIELDED craft throughout. Z95, T/F, T/I. Final mission is a bit odd though: played on Easy and with re-inforcements and with all 4 craft in the wave at once - still lost the Dreadnaught and the asteroid base without me being able to do much to help that, since I was too busy protecting the shuttle from getting wasted. Nothing major though, just weird that losing a bunch of high-value cap ships doesn't result in mission failure.
It's an odd mix of very tough missions and a couple very easy missions. Mission 1 is made simple by the fact that the rebels attack your target. Mission 2 is very tough - took a few tries and a little luck to keep everything protected that needed protection. Mission 3 and 4 are simple - just kill everything then inspect/disable what you need. Started off strong but dropped off near the end.
No questions asked, absolutely the best battle ever released :P I may be biased, but hey, it was still pretty fun. I like blowing crap up - and this did it in spades. Some missions say me playing it loose and easy with the equipment. I may have cost the EH 9 figures or so. Oops.
Really probably a 3.5, but as I have a co-starring role and it has the best squadron in EH history in it... gotta give it a 5.
Very good battle. Story and execution are very tight and well polished. Decent difficultly as most missions see you in unshielded craft and often without missles - which, by the way, is explained adequately in the story for why you don't have the missles.
I want the wasted hours of my life back that I used trying to complete the final mission. About 4 hours worth. Thanks. Please don't let the L/C's fly into the Avenger, or leave out the "Mission Failed" warnings when the L/C's (quietly) die for some random reason. Would help too if there was a bit more fire support from ANYONE ELSE, who all seem obsessed with the Lusankya and yet can't disable the damned thing after 14 or 15 minutes or trying.
It was a great set of missions up until mission 5. Now, I don't mind mission creators adding a ship about themselves into the storyline, but making it a Primary Objective that they don't fly the freakin' thing into a DREAD 35 minutes into the mission is absolutely ridiculous. If the creator kills himself, so be it. Especially on the final mission. I can see it being important if they have something to do with completing the story, but as I see it, Carl was not needed to really furthur the story. At least not as the "non-pilot" controlled craft.
Grrr. I personally was horrified by this battle. Plotline seemed sketchy at best and the missions' goals were virtually unknown to the pilots. Mission 4 in particular... after wasting 45 minutes on *that* gem, I figured out I needed to let myself get killed or hyper out in all 4 of my craft. Wonderful planning. I love it. The rest... are just as mysterious to the pilot, with very little in the briefings to explain the missions' objectives.
Battle story-line was fairly good I guess, I didn't exactly follow it too closely but at least the missions connected with each other. My problem was that you could only fly it on Medium difficulty setting because of the bug mentioned by most everyone. Angel - this isn't me crying cause it's too hard... it's me saying that it is a bug and needs to be fixed.
I never like battles with Jedi AI (Invulnerable) because it leaves too much room for you not being able to stop them from eliminating things important to your mission. (-1) As well, the "Super Shield" has been made into numerous battles and is just getting old now. (-1) Also, most important to me, there were no starfighters, let alone the Super Elite Squadron in mission 4... (-1)
Not a terrible battle. I just disliked the fact that the Escort Shuttle is invulnerable for the first missions along with the fact that in mission 2 I beleive, the enemy fighters are locked into "Exiting Hanger" and fly straight until you shoot at them. Un fortuneatly, they start a few klicks out and you gotta chase them. Not a half-bad storyline at least.
I liked this battle bcause of it's realness. The cover fighters for freighters don't have 7 or 8 waves, only 1 wave which would be what it is in real life. Also, the reinforcements don't arrive so soon as to completely swamp you before you have a chance of finishing the original mission goals. Pretty nice battle. Only thing that bugged me about it was how many times I had to find the plans for the MIS over and over again... >:( You'd think that we would have figured out that we need to guard our plans and actual MISs after they'd been stolen for the 112th time.
I must say that this mission wasn't at all fun to fly. All you do is dodge missles from either A-Ws or the Mon Cal Cruiser. It's very annoying and I only managed to beat it with luck and flying on Easy. I flew it on Hard about 10 times trying to get as close as I could to the high-score for a DB comp. Same thing happened under Medium. Fly this mission only if you really need too...
