This was certainly a fast battle, if very good and entertaining. Despite its eight mission mark, it's actually pretty fluid and quite easy really, at least on medium when I played it. It's got a decent storyline that flows very nicely, and everything's done fairly well, if a little heavy handed in sections (i.e. Tyrannians is not very subtle :P). The missions are fun and very fast paced, and as others have commented, it would make a great competition battle. It's very easy, I must say, however, but that's not such a bad thing after you've flown a torrent of missions with A-Wings with Adv. Missiles coming at you. I'd recommend it for a fun battle that breezes by.
I think this battle should have a much higher ranking than it currently does, personally. This was an extremely fun battle, one of the best I've done in a long time. The plot was fun, reminiscent of some of the earlier battles of TIE Fighter, and well done. Particularly of note was its realism and its use of the TIE Fighter, a craft I am rapidly beginning to love again. Each of the missions sees you barreling headfirst into a swarm of fire, coming out just barely. Each mission was well balanced, if a bit on the easy side, as I as able to complete each mission the first time with one exception. Essentially, it's just a great, fun battle. I'd recommend it.
This is a very fun free mission, and a nice diversion from the normal TIE Defender melange. The plot is amusing and well thought out, and the gameplay is very different (read the briefing and you'll see :P). It's somewhat tedious to do flyby after flyby of the asteroids after a while, but overall, it's action packed, and very enjoyable. It isn't that difficult, even on hard, but it's definitely an interesting one to play. Check it out if you'd like a change from the norm.
Yet another battle. This one isn't particularly good, and isn't particularly bad; it just goes by. That's basically all you can say of it. The plot is nonexistent, the flying consists of boring waves over and over, and the whole thing is basically in exercise in gaining a few more FCHG. Nothing less than that, but nothing more by any standard.
This isn't the worst battle I've played in the EH yet, but I have to say it's probably in the runnerup category. It's not so bad at first, and seems like it might turn out to be average. Unfortunately, everything after a few missions just consists of endless dogfights with waves of TIE Defenders and TIE Advanceds, which isn't the most interesting experience ever, to say the least. If you have some time and you're willing to end your session with a grinding headache, go ahead and try it. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it.
Overall, this was an excellent, spirited battle. It's well put together, the plot is pretty nice, and its pretty balanced. The only things I could think of against this battle would be that it's a pretty lengthy battle by any standards, due to a heavy load of dogfighting with tons of fighters, and that Mission 4 is just a bit too much. There are fighters everywhere and it's just wave after wave. Aside from, for those with some time to spare, I'd recommend it for a fun battle.
Well, I suppose the best thing I can say is that it isn't actually the worst battle I've played. It doesn't really reach for anything new, and is utterly boring. In some of the missions, you just cruise by, destroying everything quickly. In others, you fight forever with waves of TIEs with no threat to yourself, just the loss of sanity incurred by randomly destroying craft and craft. Additionally, the plot is not even bog standard. There's just not any effort put in on this one.
I'd have to say this was a very fun mission overall, well constructed and challenging (if not too much). Everything seemed to work correctly, although I did get a little friendly fire from some of my mates in the later portions of the mission, but this was no big thing at all. Overall, it's a fun dogfight, a bit on the easy side. Aside from the minor quibble, I'd recommend it.
I think this mission lies somewhere between a 3 and a 4, so I rounded down. This battle is interesting and fun in its way, especially as a parody of some of the lesser missions of the Mission Compendium. However, it's a very "one trick" mission. You essentially just SLAM in, SLAM out, and fire your rockets until the mission ends. You can stick around to fight the fighters, but it's not required. And if you try to engage them before you take down the Nebulon Frigates, you start the slow process of getting your shields pattered down to nothing over a long time. It's definitely interesting in it's way, and overall, it's alright, fun, and not too bad.
Overall, an excellent battle. While it definitely has its flaws, mostly in some overlong missions that seem to drag on, as well as the notorious Mission 4 that seems to last into the next few millenia, it really does convey its story well. It's plotline is well defined, and everything in the battle supports and follows naturally from it, and the beginning is a classic.
Overall, this battle was decent. Not particularly good, not particularly bad. There really isn't any sort of plot besides the vague notion of important cargo, but the missions seem to get better as they go along, and the last one was very fun and quick moving.
Reading the other reviews, I came into this battle with low expectations. Surprisingly, this battle totally surpassed them. Not only was the plot decent if not particularly fantastic, it also played well and had some nice quirks (such as the missile boat run, which was quite nice). Admittedly, this battle -is- one big dogfight, but every once in a while, what's wrong with that? A very nice battle.
A rather boring battle by an stretch of the imagination. A nonexistent plotline combined with some strange, overlong missions makes for a pretty dull experience. There are hints in the last mission of a greater vision, but even then it's not well developed. On the other hand, however, it goes by very quickly.
I think this battle was very well done, in my opinion. The plot was interesting enough to be followed, and the end level had a feel reminiscent of the old Lucasarts levels. If there'd been a few less Adv. Missiles flying around, I'd give it probably even higher.
While this battle may not merit a "3" on the basis of originality, it definitely does in terms of fun. The missions here are a little on the easy side, but the gameplay is fun and the plot, while nothing special to say the least, fulfills its purpose. It's a good battle, I think.
There just wasn't any real care put into this mission at all. I hate to give the lowest rating for this battle, but there's really no other fitting judgement. Waiting endlessly while you destroy a billion waves of fighters to kill the same ships over and over again is just not the makeup of a good battle.
This was an alright battle, overall. There were some issues with difficult goals (i.e. making sure your wingmen don't forget and let one get away on Mission 2), but otherwise, it was pretty entertaining, and seemed to have some genuine effort put into it. All in all, I'd call it decent.
This battle was, as the others already said, desperately boring. While not particularly terrible, you essentially just spend your missions to slowly wittle down so capital ship so one of your own can go to hyperspace, which, in this battle, usually takes almost five minutes. Not terrible, but just not good.
Short but very sweet. It's one of the best so far that I've played of TIE-Free's because it simply conveys some of the almost comical hopelessness of being a little man strapped inside a coffin with a mounted turret... I mean, the heroic TIE Fighter. Amusing, and well done.
This is a very fun battle, in my opinion. It's focused, works without any errors, and is just hard enough to be challenging but not infuriating. Additionally, you've really got to pay attention to the details of the briefings, which is always a plus.
While not the worst battle I've played, "Escort Carrier Missions" just has far too many problems to be considered good. From friendly fire to waves of craft that sometimes show up, sometimes don't, and TIE-Bomber vs. A-Wing escapades, it just isn't fun. And as another said, it's long. And that's an understatement.
I was impressed by the battle, to say the least. All of the missions are very cool and even evoke a real battle atmosphere, but... the last mission felt undone. I'm not really sure why the stealth thing was really needed in hindsight (aside from furthering the story a slight bit). But, who am I to critique? The story and the briefings (excellent animation I think) were both great. Overall, a great battle - definitely worthy of eveyone's time.
