Fellow gamers/EHers,

Just to clarify our 'official' club position: Although the EH supports the Save SWG efforts and the petition (i.e., our 'grassroots' efforts to get SOE/LA to MAYBE change their minds, come to a new agreement, and/or reconsider some other alternatives (i.e., F2P business model) to keep the core game open, I (and speaking for most of the EH) believe a lawsuit is unwinnable, does not help the cause and is not the right strategy moving forward...

As I recently posted on the SWG Forums:

With some quick resets to our club/guild phpBB message board permissions (and thanks to XO Rapier's hard work and response tonight), the Emperor's Hammer (EH) ( www.emperorshammer.org ) is now offering the free use of our msg board forum for the SWG closing topic: http://www.emperorshammer.org/messageboard.

The EH is a well respected online organization and we have been around for ages...I hope we can assist in even a small way by lending our support to his grassroots efforts by the SWG players to keep the game alive!

As a player since July 2003, and one of the premiere Armorsmiths and BHs on the Chilastra server, like you all, I find this recent move by SOE/LA reprehensible.

We therefore have re-set anonymous permissions for this one forum/topic, so you all can go there and post without having to even register as an EH msg board user. If you do register, you can see our other topics there (but be advised that to control spambots we manually authenticate registered users).

We just wanted to make it easy for people who want to vent outside LA/SOE's pervue.

It's up!!!

SOE just posted a response to the petitions...Now, call me crazy but it appears our grassroots efforts are not only garnering attention but also it appears that SOE is in full damage control mode...Keep it up!

"Regarding the Star Wars Galaxies petitions, we first want to thank everyone for taking the time to organize such an effort. As always, we appreciate your feedback, and I can assure you with 100% confidence that your feelings have been heard.

No one is more disappointed than we are to cancel Star Wars Galaxies; however, we are confident that this was the only decision possible. This was not an easy decision to make; Sony Online Entertainment and Lucas Arts spent months deliberating, and in the end we had to make the hard choice. We are extremely proud of the ground we broke with the launch of SWG, its growth and evolution since launch, and most especially, the community.

We would ask you take this opportunity to enjoy SWG as long as possible and participate in the game ending event this December.  Thank you again for your dedication to Star Wars Galaxies and we hope your final memories are enjoyable.

May the force always be with you.

As the Star Wars mythos is built on the concept of the underdog taking on the Empire, so our quixotic battle vs. "the man" continues...The efforts of thousands of fellow SWG players have started to get some attention.  While the odds of success are low, I ask our loyal EHers to help and keep up the pressure on SOE/LA!

It appears that our efforts have already garnered ~2,100 petition signatures as of today, which is less than 72 hours after the shutdown announcement!  It looks like a couple of minor media outlets are already reporting on the story:

There's an ad hoc 'petition', well lots of folks posting angrily, on the msg boards at http://www.lucasarts.com ... already there are hundreds of posts there on the SWG Closing threads...mostly telling off LA...LOL...PLEASE help me/us out that have been playing the game for the past 8 years...through thick and thin. Register and post your disappointment with their decision...I have just posted there as well; who knows...MAYBE we can convince someone at LA or SOE to take pity on us die hards and leave a couple of servers open or leave SWG open under a free-to-play (f2p) business model. Worth a shot I suppose...and it couldn't hurt! Maybe we will get lucky and they will fire Smedley and reconsider LOL...well, a grizzled ol' Elder Bounty Hunter can dream can't he? :)

The Fringe/SWG guild has been a very important part of the overall EH for 8 years now...please support our guild's (admittedly long shot) efforts and show SOE/LA that we will NOT go quietly into that good night!

If you are so inclined and can lend your support, I implore you to add your name to growing list of disgruntled SWG players posting therein. If nothing else, it gives you a convenient place to "rage against the man" :)

We write to you today to inform you that on December 15, 2011, Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) and LucasArts will end all services (MMO and Trading Card Game) for Star Wars Galaxies (SWG). The shutdown of SWG is a very difficult decision, but SOE and LucasArts have mutually agreed that the end of 2011 is the appropriate time to end the game.
