A bit too much lasering down capital ships for my tastes (right off the bat in Mission #1 too). That combined with a ship limit bug (see Bug Reports) at present brings it down a bit. Still, definitely a solid X-Wing battle worth playing!


I really enjoyed flying this one. It has quite a decent plot and sports mission of a good variety. They are also quite well balanced without the neverending waves of fighters nor superior friendly force. Perhaps it could use a bit more variety on the field of craft you pilot. Still a decent battle!

Can verify the CRS Bismark bug in Mission 3 and provide context: the Bismark is not arriving because the ship limit is being hit. Attacking Y-W Rogue triggers the arrival of additional ships, which when combined with other ships arriving in the first minute, makes it so there are too many ships for CRS Bismark to arrive.

Work-arounds include avoiding attacking Y-W Rogue until the first FRG is destroyed (or any other ally ship) or sending one or both of your wingmen home to start the mission.

Mission 3 includes a win condition for Cruiser Bismarck to arrive, but this ship did not arrive even after mission timer expiring and all enemies defeated, with no indication in the mission or the briefing for what, if anything, is supposed to trigger its arrival

Readme says to fly this with under the Tour of Duty missions. After the first mission I immediately finish the battle and no further missions are flyable. At the same time, my pilot file did not receive credit for completing the mission and I am unable to access follow on missions in the battle. X-Wing 98(?) version from GoG.

INSTALL NOTES: Use of XCD or XCDR utilities necessary to run these missions in X-wing CD. For 
use in X-wing disk version or in the X-wing Collectors Series edition, just back up your original 
mission and briefings files and place the Karana mission and briefing files in the directory of your 
choice. Use the same briefings for both versions; in the disk version, the B-wing is replaced by 
the Y-wing. 

BATTLE PLOTLINE: Establishing a network of supply and repair depots, listening posts, training 
platforms, and defense and full assault staging bases is the next job for the IW's prosecution of 
the command's  iron will in our new sector. Trouble is, the Rebels operating out of the Minos 
Cluster don't want to see us succeed. In fact, they are trying to drive us out of the area before 
we become fully entrenched.

Mission 1 – Our expert interrogations of the captured Warlord Na’Sala revealed much vital 
information about what the IW will face in gaining hegemony in the Karana system. First, we 
must deal with a major problem. A Rebel prison camp has been uncovered just inside Karana 
space, thanks to Nar’Sala’s ravings. The mobile camp consists of several mothballed capital ships. 
Rebel warships are nearby, too, taking advantage of the hidden location. We must disable the 
prison ships to recover any of our personnel who may have been taken there after recent 
campaigns. We also must drive off or destroy the enemy warships and their starfighters.

Mission 2 – The IW is setting up its own prison camp, using the craft captured in the previous 
mission. Supply craft are entering the area to deliver materiel, stormtroopers and weaponry for 
the new prison camp network. IW starfighters must oversee these operations.

Mission 3 – A new repair depot and listening post just established by the IW in a forward location 
of the Karana system has been under sporadic attack and the starfighter squadron billeted to 
protect the installation has been worn down. Your X-wing Panther group is being sent to 
reinforce the protective operations.

Mission 4 – Warlord Nar’Sala escaped before he could be executed. He killed a guard, stole a 
shuttle and ran to his Rebel cohorts. He of course spilled his guts, and now the Rebels and 
Gunrunners’ forces are launching an all-out assault against our forces in the area. The Bismarck 
and Saratoga must be saved!

Mission 5 – Nar’Sala, his forces bloodied by us in the recent mission, is trapped in a disabled 
corvette, and our starfighters are being launched to take him out. That’s right, this time we just 
kill him. He is of no interrogation value now. But first you have to break through his heavily 
armed escorts, which consist of a B-wing group, an X-wing group and several other heavily 
armored corvettes. Plus, we just intercepted a transmission that indicates two flights of an A-
wing squadron have been summoned as well.

Mission 6 – Your X-wing squadron is on picket duty near an asteroid cluster near shipping lanes 
the IW needs to keep an eye on as Karana infiltration operations continue. Suddenly several 
Gunrunner cargo craft hyper in near the asteroids, fleeing from IW forces in another nearby 
sector. You move in for the kill, the final step in clearing the infiltration zone for the IW. But two 
corvettes also arrive, as do a squadron of captured Imperial Gunboats being used by the 
Gunrunners.
