Battle Reviews

Played on easy. Lots of waiting on mission 3. Mission 4 I don't know what happened but the transport never captured the platform, finally quit out and re-tried and it worked the second time but kind of annoying to that it didn't work initially.

Pretty simple and easy to accomplish set of missions. I found myself waiting for a bit at the end of #3. I probably could have done it on a higher difficulty setting and would recommend trying that.

Mission Description: Remake of the Battle from the Original TIE Fighter
Briefing: Clear, concise and understandable.
Objectives: Believable and achievable for the most part
Multiplayer: Yes (3)
Replayability: Yes (Snubfighter, Wave & Ordinance selection on various missions, however please see summary)
Bugs: Nil observed.
Summary: Still as infuriating in places as it was at launch, this is a remake of the aforementioned TIE Fighter battle has teething issues with some 'interesting' choices. Be wary of selecting different snubfighters though, as captures are required.

Played on easy. Honestly, found it a bit lack luster. The story was good, but that was already written. Did not have a ton of fun flying it, was just a task to get through.

One of the better remasters of the original TIE in XvT. No mission-breaking bugs, briefings that work, and overall an enjoyable way to experience the joys of classic TIE without the clunky game mechanics.

Pretty enjoyable mission that utilizes the EH Ship pack and a WAV pack to include new audio. The first two missions have you in a TIE Advanced while the last two have you in an Assault Gunboat. Using the notes in the plotline.txt file I was able to easily beat missions 1-3 on medium. The 4th mission was a challenge as you would get pulled in close to the platform and then it would target you with all its guns. Probably took me a dozen tries to figure out how to best approach all the ships to disable them.

Excellent missions, on par with LucasArts mission design. Great atmosphere and immersion of participating in the Empire's grand campaigns; important things are happening and you're merely a participant. Missions 2 and 4 have some EXTREMELY harsh difficulty spikes where you'll have to pump out a LOT of dps on demand, and harkens back to the 'puzzle' design of original 1993 X-Wing. The last set of enemy bombers are especially unforgiving if you're out of position. Interesting juggling required in Mission 4 rarely seen elsewhere in the franchise. || edit: I guess these ARE the LucasArts missions, go figure.

Flew this for the RTF 2021 competition. Tried to go for the highscore, but some of the mission took 5 or more retries and still some of the critical objects got destroyed while trying to survive... Not a big fan of rescue everything or failure missions. Than there was a lot of waiting for the freighters in mission 3 and 4 after the fighting almost 5 minutes of just capturing/docking/hypering.

Pretty good and well thought battle, played this during a bonus competition in rtf 2021, few days left to go.

i played this on easy, the last mission was really good, i want to see more battles that have your wingmen carrying ion lasers to help disable fighters. this lets you clean up after them and its a really good 1-2 combo. the correllian ship kept escaping from me and i was taking alot of damage from its rear lasers. for some reason it felt like my wingmates werent obeying the order to disable just this ship

A good collections of missions recreating the classic TIE Fighter Tour of Duty VI: Arms Race. With the option of flying either TIE Advanced or Gunboat, you can use different strategies to accomplish your objectives. The last mission has some captures that require the gunboat's ion, though. I first tried each mission on Hard a few times but died quickly so I completed them all on medium. This was still challenging but not too hard.

One of my favourite XvT battles so far, the designer has done a good job of capturing the feeling of some of TIE Fighter which is what this series of battles are trying to mimic. Complicated in places but very flyable.

I played on Easy. This was a quick set of missions that follow the theme of this series of battles. The missions are decently varied and there wasn't too much idle time, which was nice. I had a decent time playing these and would consider revisiting them on a higher difficulty.

This was one of the better battles of the original. It wasnt doing much but it was quite good at what it was doing. A reminder how missions do not always need to be overly complex to be enjoyable. I liked the touch of having the actual shuttle visibly parked on the platform before it would take off.

Good quality missions. Remake from TF obviously. Some of it is a little tedious, but the variety in objectives is what carries over to XvT really well. It isn't just a quick dogfight and I like how the original mission designer had different ways of making it difficult for people compared to how custom mission designers like making things difficult. All in all still a pleasure to play.

Such a great mission! I remember fondly playing through the original TIE Defender story line, so getting a chance to relive it was great! The missions were well paced and very smooth. A+ work!

The high quality of this battle is in the same levels of previous installments of the TIE Fighter remastered for XvT. Ender did a fantastic job with this one as well. Not to be missed, this almost canonical battle.

On Mission 4, played on medium, with the WAV pack installed. The audio for the Shuttle flying away seems to play way to early. I would get pulled in near the platform and the shuttle definitely wasn't moving.

The way the arrival conditions are set up, if you fly on medium/hard and end up with the FRT disabled but not captured, you're stuck. The additional rebel craft wont come until the FRT leave, but the TRN that repair the FRT wont come until the extra rebel craft are mostly killed.

Description
-----------
"Zaarin builds new technology."

The release of the Emperor's Hammer Shippatch made it possible to make full conversions
of TIE battles for XvT. This conversion was made using more then just "tie2xvt", about every
aspect except the actual texts was changed to get better results in XvT - however great care
was taken to retain the same atmosphere as the TIE version had.

This battle happens just after the Battle of Hoth and is Mareek Stele's sixth campaign.

This battle runs sequentially to X-Wing Alliance battle #2 "Secret Weapons of the Empire"

All official TIE Fighter missions of the first 7 battles are part of the Emperor's Hammer History.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Briefings:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mission 1:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"The TIE Advanced, after much delay, has finally reached the frontline units and has begun to see action against the Rebellion. Admiral Zaarin's team has continued working on improving the TIE series of starfighters and has built prototypes of a radically redesigned TIE.
Six prototypes of this newest TIE starfighter designated the TIE Defender are to be taken to the Emperor at Coruscant for his personal review. Your task is to ensure the safety of the loading operation."

Mission 2:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"The TIE Defender prototypes are being transported to Coruscant. They were picked up at Zaarin's research facility by three Cargo Ferries. At the rendezvous point near Vinzen Neela 5 the prototypes will be transferred to a more heavily defended craft, the Escort Carrier Hininbirg. Your primary goal is to thwart the Rebel ambush during this transfer operation."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"The Emperor is disturbed by the security breach at Zaarin's research facility. You must gather evidence on who is behind the leak. Inspect any Rebel starships for clues on how the Rebels discovered this rendezvous was taking place."

Mission 3:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"To protect the delivery of critical supplies to Zaarin's research platform."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"You have served the Emperor well. Your loyalty will be rewarded. Continue to do your duty."

Mission 4:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"Our objective in this mission is to make an example of Galactic Electronics. For trading with the enemy, the corporation's assets are to be seized by the Empire.
Our task is to take over the research platform where they developed the Mag Pulse technology which they sold to the Rebels.

The research platform is well armed and has hangar facilities for an entire squadron of Z-95 Headhunters. They shouldn't cause you too much trouble. Use a single missile on each to rapidly clear them away. Assault Transport group Omega will enter after you've had three minutes to punch through the platform's fighter defenses."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"Assist with the capture of any craft fleeing from the research facility. Protect our Assault Transports as they board and capture the base personnel. Also, be alert for an opportunity to disable a Rebel craft carrying the Mag Pulse technology."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Debriefings:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mission 1:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"You and your wingmen intercepted the Rebel raiders and prevented them from stopping the loading operation. The prototypes are safely on their way to the Emperor on Coruscant."

Mission 2:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"You disrupted the Rebels attempted ambush and ensured that ESC Hininbirg received the TIE Defender prototypes. The Hininbirg will deliver the new fighters to Coruscant for the Emperor's inspection."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"You faithfully followed your orders by inspecting the Corvettes. We are analysing the results."

Mission 3:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"We prevented another Rebel raid and thwarted their attempt to capture the convoy."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"You helped capture one of the Rebel's B-wings with their new weapon. It is a homing warhead that appears to disable only the weapon systems of the target craft."

Mission 4:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"We demonstrated the folly of working in opposition to the stated aims of the Empire. Selling weapons to our enemies is an intolerable act of treason. The punishment is death!
Now, some good news for you! You have been selected to receive advanced combat training in the new TIE Defender. Report to the Combat Chamber and select the TIE Defender missions."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"You helped us capture another Rebel starfighter equipped with the Mag Pulse weapon."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mission Hints:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mission 1:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"Take out the B-wings first. Use your missiles in dual fire mode to kill them as quickly as possible. Use the "assign current target to wingmen" order to make sure that any B-wing you aren't personally attacking is at least forced out of its torpedo run."

Mission 2:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"Attack the Corvettes first. As you close on the minelaying Corvettes, fire a pair of missiles at each laser turret. Order your wingmen to go after the X-wings while you finish off the Corvettes. Take out mines while you make firing passes on the Corvettes."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"Inspect the two Corvettes before they finish their minelaying operation and hyperspace out of the area."

Mission 3:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"Rendezvous with the convoy as quickly as you can. Order your wingmen to engage the X-wings as soon as they arrive. Switch to dual fire missiles and rapidly take out one or two B-wings. Now take out the Rebel Assault Transports. Return your attention to the B-wings. When they are all eliminated, you can help finish off the X-wings."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"When you intercept the B-wings, remember to disable one or two rather than destroy them all.
When the A-wings arrive, disengage from the X-wings and go after the A-wings. They will try to destroy any B-wings you have disabled for capture."

Mission 4:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"Use your missiles to quickly take out at least six of the Z-95 Headhunters. Since your wingmen will usually go after the #1 craft of each enemy flight group, you should target the #2 and proceed through your target list.
Place the Transport and Shuttle in memory and watch for the message that the Transport has finished docking. Be sure to be close by when this happens so you can disable it quickly. Now target the Shuttle and disable it. The Corellian Transport will launch from the platform now and you can intercept and disable it.
Go back to killing Z-95 Headhunters. When they're all gone, lend assistance to the Assault Transports trying to disable the platform."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"Watch for the arrival of the Rebels soon after the capture operations begin. Try to take out a couple of the Y-wings quickly, then disable one or two of the remainder. It helps to have saved some missiles."
