Battle Reviews

Good copy/paste of the original first battle, with the addition of 'modern' multiplayer options such as ordinance changing (which makes the last two missions super-easy) and a capacity to play with up to two additional pilots.

Some minor scripting/flight command/loadout issues for AI which detract, but otherwise good.

This battle was well designed with a thoughtful plot line that was continuous across all missions of this battle. Points were deducted because of the excessive use of classic starfighters. The Emperor's Hammer has access to much more formidable craft!

I flew this as part of Raise the Flag competition 2021. Overall, the battle seemed straightforward with no major hang-ups. There is not much to say about it. It was fun but the battle did not contain any elements that makes it stand out from nearly every other battle you have ever flown.

I played on Easy. This was a fairly quick set of missions. I enjoyed that a good amount. My biggest gripe is that Mission 2 makes you wait for so long, in start contrast to the rest of the missions. I sat around in Mission 2 for longer than I actually had to fly the mission.

Overall I enjoyed this one, fairly straight forward, not too much time spent between objectives. Mission 2 was the only mission that took some time due to the ship arriving way after everything was killed but otherwise pretty good

Pretty bland mixture of missions in this battle. Nothing crazy hard or exciting. You do some dogfighting, you inspect some ships. The only issue I ran into was that for one mission the objectives didn't match what was required. Either that or it just happened to complete right as something else was unfolding.

A relatively entertaining battle here, where the earlier missions are rather good. The later missions revolve around the destruction of a Mon Cal Cruiser and could really be one battle as opposed to two, but overall it's not bad at all.

This battle I do remember still, after so many years and the Onece Freighters carrying foodstuffs. Always interesting to see these old classic battles so many years later.

A golden classic. Never gets old flying around Outpost D-34. Legendary, this battle has been excellently ported out to the XvT engine, and certainly will live up to expectations of the original TIE campaign. Not to be missed, this one.

Despite not being an original creation, this deserves a 5 just for the sheer amount of work put into porting TIE into XvT and meaning I can enjoy the campaign on a platform that isn't unbearably clunky to use. That said, sometimes I wish XvT had time acceleration...

I have to admit, playing the first Tie Battle in XvT is a lot of fun. Everything is re-created nicely. I do enjoy using the 'random' option, so spawn different craft. Giving this a score of 4 out of 5, considering it is not an original piece of work. Nicely put together tho. No bugs found.

Nothing to complain about, no bugs or anything like that. Good mix of objectives. Like the original Tie Fighter version its a fun battle.

What can I say? I mean, what can I add? This is the first TIE Battle, a classic worth of being among the best battles ever and that's it. Having said that only remains to mention that our SCO crazy Ender the Gender-B... errr (ejem) did an excellent work here porting the battle to XvT engine. Actually, he did much more than just that to overcome the obvious differences between the 2 game engines and now you can play this battle on XvT exactly the same as you did on TIE and with the same difficulty (±) considering XvT engine AI increment. Apart from that he tried to keep everything there, made a special doc with all Mission Hints and Debriefings (XvT lacks both dammit), made a Battle Medal pic using the original one and maybe the best of all: he used the original LA voice acting from TIE!! Definitely, if you don't like this battle you're strange and dangerous and someone should take care of your... freedom... >:)
So in the end, although Ender will never ever get the Golden Tug to the best battle plot nor to originality with this stuff, he did an excellent work, exactly what he was supposed to do and brought us the perfect way for new Trainees to complete their training the best way possible (with true battles and not some silly mission mess) using another game platform and not only TIE. A 5 comes well deserved here.

Introduction
-------------
"Pursue Rebels fleeing from Hoth."

The release of the Emperor's Hammer Shippatch made it possible to make full conversions
of TIE battles for XvT. This conversion was made using more then just "tie2xvt", about every
aspect except the actual texts was changed to get better results in XvT - however great care
was taken to retain the same atmosphere as the TIE version had.

This battle happens just after the Battle of Hoth and is Mareek Stele's first campaign.
All official TIE Fighter missions of the first 7 battles are part of the Emperor's Hammer History.

Story Line
----------

[View Plotline.txt for the officer (de)briefings and mission hints.]

Mission 1:
Inspect cargo vessels as they pass through an Imperial checkpoint. You will fly a TIE Fighter. Be
on the alert for Rebels trying to sneak past the checkpoint!

Mission 2:
Defend an Imperial space platform against enemy attack. You will fly a TIE Fighter against Z-95s,
Y-wings and X-wings. Keep the platform safe from torpedo attacks!

Mission 3:
Attack a Mugaari cargo loading area during a weapons transfer to the Rebels. You will fly a TIE
Bomber against armed cargo vessels and Y-wings. Catch the Mugaari in the act of aiding the Rebellion!

Mission 4:
Recapture an Imperial base that has fallen to the Rebels. You will fly a TIE Interceptor against
X-wings, Y-wings and Escort Shuttles. Show the Rebels that no victory of theirs will remain unreversed!

Briefings:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mission 1:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"Freighter traffic has been above normal in this area. We think this is related to the retreat of
Rebel forces in the aftermath of our attack on their base on Hoth. Stay alert for Rebels hidden
amongst the freighter convoys!
You are to inspect all cargo carrying vessels that pass through this area. To accomplish this, target
each freighter and transport, then fly close enough for your ship's sensors to determine what cargo
the vessel has on board. Check your progress on the Mission Goals screen, toggled by hitting 'G'.
You will fly the TIE Fighter, designated Alpha. You will be the only craft in your flight group.
Stay alert for radio messages as the mission progresses. Use your Message Log (toggled by hitting
'L') to review this communication."

Mission 2:
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"After interrogating the Rebel prisoners captured aboard the Mugaari freighter, we are sure that the
Rebels plan to launch an assault on this outpost. You must hold off the attacking forces until help
arrives from the Imperial Star Destroyer Hammer.
We expect the Mugaari and the Rebels to be joining forces to attack us. It is likely that they only
have the more obsolete starfighters, like the Z-95 Headhunter and the Y-wing, to use in this assault.
However, they may use more advanced fighters like the X-wing, as well.
You will be flying the TIE Fighter, designated Alpha. You will have two wingmen. Your TIE Fighter
will be specially modified to carry 2 concussion missile launchers holding 2 missiles each."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"I am a special envoy of the Emperor. In this time of crisis, political intrigue, and open rebellion,
the Emperor requires special means of communication with his loyal forces. In the battles ahead, I
will ensure that his wishes reach those like yourself who have pledged their fealty to him. You
will have many opportunities to serve the Emperor and will be rewarded for your efforts.
In the mission ahead, locate the Rebel officers who are fleeing from Hoth in a stolen Imperial
Shuttle. We have forces standing by who will attempt to disable and capture this shuttle once you
have located it.

Mission 3:
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"We have traced the arms used in the recent attack on Outpost D-34 to a Mugaari cargo loading area in
the Tungra Sector. We suspect that the Mugaari are providing arms and other aid to the Rebels. Our
attack on this cargo area is timed to catch the Mugaari and Rebels in their next illicit weapons
exchange. Your mission objective is to destroy all cargo-carrying vessels at this site. Destroy
everything, take no prisoners.
We expect this weapons site to be heavily protected by starfighters. The Mugaari have only the more
antiquated fighters, so we expect to see mainly Y-wings defending the site.
You will be flying a TIE Bomber, designated Alpha. You will have two wingmen in your flight group.
Your craft will be equipped with an extra heavy load of 12 proton torpedoes for use in this assault."

Mission 4:
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"During our attack on the Mugaari/Rebel weapons area, the Rebels launched a raid on Outpost D-34.
It fell to the Rebels despite a valiant fight. The Rebel terrorists are in the process of looting
the station for any arms or equipment they can steal. Our objective for this mission is to retake
the Outpost, recovering as much stolen material as we can.
Besides the usual Y-wings and X-wings, our intelligence believes that the Mugaari have sold the
Rebels a squadron of the new Escort Shuttles that they stole from Cygnus Spaceworks. These craft
are a design modification of the Lambda Class Tyderian shuttle for use as military assault and
heavily armed escort vehicle. What makes them particularly deadly is their rear mounted, flexible
laser turret.
You will be flying a TIE Intercepto. You will be the flight leader of a three or two craft flight
group. Your craft will be equipped with 12 concussion missiles."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"The Emperor is concerned by the Rebels' capture of Outpost D-34. The most disturbing element
is that they seem to know exactly how to time their attack, when Imperial forces are engaged in
another sector. Be alert for clues and opportunities to inspect or capture any Rebel craft leaving
the Outpost when we recapture it."

Mission 5:
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"The Rebel attack on Outpost D-34 was launched from a Rebel cruiser in the Bruanii Sector. We have
located its exact position and are launching an attack to destroy it. You will fly in the first
wave to clear away the Cruiser's starfighter shield, paving the way for the second wave of Assault
Gunboats. These gunboats will lead the direct assault on the Cruiser.
The Rebel Cruiser will send its finest A-wings, B-wings, and X-wings to defend itself.
You will be flying an Assault Gunboat. You will have one wingman in your flight group. Your craft
will be equipped with 16 concussion missiles."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"The Emperor wishes to investigate possible complicity of Imperial forces in the recent Rebel
successes. Imperial war materiel is showing up very frequently in Rebel hands. Inspect all the
Rebel cargo containers before they get destroyed to see if they may be carrying Imperial equipment."

Mission 6:
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"The Rebel Light Calamari Cruiser Lulsla is the target of this mission. Two previous attacks have
weakened its defenses to the critical point. We are confident that a joint Assault Gunboat and
Transport attack can finish it off.
The Rebel cruiser probably has a small number of starfighters remaining to help in its defense. The
cruiser's main protection lies in the minefield around it.
You will be flying the Assault Gunboat. You will be the flight leader of a two craft flight group.
Your craft will be equipped with the standard 16 concussion missiles."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"The Imperial attack on theRebel Cruiser will certainly succeed. Its impending destruction will
probably cause its commander and crew to try to abandon ship. Be prepared to track down its
commander and disable his escaping craft. Any other fleeing ships should be destroyed."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Debriefings:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mission 1:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"You have discovered a freighter full of Rebels trying to escape from their base on Hoth.
Excellent work. As we expected, fleeing Rebels are trying to sneak through this sector.
We captured a freighter full of Rebels trying to escape from the planet Hoth. Hoth, a nearby ice
planet, was the main base of the Rebels. The recent Imperial attack on this base has driven their
forces into flight. The interrogation of these Rebel prisoners should help us track more of them down."

Mission 2:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"You have defeated an attack by the Rebels and Mugaari. You have saved our outpost from
destruction and destroyed many of the attacking enemy ships."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"The Rebel officers you havelocated will prove useful to our cause. From them we will learn the
whereabouts of other Rebel terrorists."

Mission 3:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"The timing of our attack was perfect, we attacked when both parties to the weapons deal were
still in the area. Our attack completely destroyed all of the Mugaari and Rebel craft."

Mission 4:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"Despite a heavy and intense battle, our forces prevailed in recapturing Outpost D-34. The
Rebellion's plan to loot and pillage Imperial property has been thwarted."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"Excellent, you have helped us locate the equipment the Rebels looted from Outpost D-34."

Mission 5:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"You destroyed the Cruiser's starfighter defense. Good work, this will allow our forces to
destroy the Cruiser."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"Just as the Emperor suspected, Imperial probes were found among the Rebel supplies.
They could only have come from an Imperial source. An Imperial traitor is selling the most
sophisticated of Imperial hi-tech equipment to the enemy. This is treason."

Mission 6:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"You helped to destroy the Light Calamari Cruiser Lulsla. This is a major achievement in our fight
against the Rebellion in this sector."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"You have helped capture the commander of the Lulsla, excellent work."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mission Hints:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mission 1:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"Just inspect the freighters and transports, avoid any dogfighting. During inspections, slow your
craft down and be extracareful to avoid colliding with one of the large freighters. Your small
TIE Fighter can not survive this type of collision."

Mission 2:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"Concentrate your defense on destroying the attacking Y-wings and X-wings. These ships are
carrying proton torpedoes which can cause the heaviest damage to our installation."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"During the battle watch your sensors carefully for the appearance of any enemy shuttles.
Inspect them to see if they have Rebel officers on board. Don't let anyone on your side destroy craft
with these officers. We want to capture them alive."

Mission 3:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"Your TIE Bomber is not designed for heavy dogfighting so avoid direct engagements with enemy
starfighters unless you are sure you can get on their tail and stay there until you have destroyed
them. Also, a number of the enemy freighters are armed with laser batteries, so use your proton
torpedoes from long range only."

Mission 4:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"Protect the Frigate Fogger from Rebel attack. Concentrate on those craft firing torpedoes
at your command ship. If they are able to fire their warheads, try shooting the torpedoes down with
laser fire or even with your concussion missiles. Give respect to the rear mounted laser turrets
on the escort shuttles."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"Inspect the container transport and other transports that are leaving the Outpost."

Mission 5:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"Dogfight outside the range of the Cruiser's lasers. Use your missiles sparingly and against the
most difficult targets, the A-wings. Before firing, make sure you have a full missile lock (red gunsight)."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"It appears that our own forces are very eager to destroy the cargo containers sitting near
the Cruiser Lulsla. They must be inspected. Our forces may be trying to cover something up."

Mission 6:
----------
FLIGHT OFFICER:
"Get your shields to full strength and keep them there. Once you get close to the minefield surrounding
the Cruiser Lulsla, you'll need all the shield protection you can muster. You can use your missiles to
take out many of the mines, use only one missile on each mine. Stay at a distance so fewer mines can
target you at once."

DARK BROTHERHOOD:
"Watch carefully for any craft that are fleeing the Lulsla. While inspecting all craft, keep an eye
out for the Cruiser's commander. Destroy all other fleeing craft."
