Battle Reviews

CM Jagged Fell III

I REALLY wanted to like this battle more. The first two missions were fun and different, and the start of the 3rd was too but then I had no idea how to end the mission as the frigate didn't come in until a while after all the mission objectives were marked complete and then it wasn't marked as my command ship so I did not know to go to it to board for longer than it should have been. Mission 4 was just a basic, take out the capitol ships mission.

Super quick battle, but heavily bugged in mission 3. See bug report.

This battle is not for the feign-hearted. You will die, a lot. I like challenging battles, I really do! Mission #1 is just unfairly hard. Flying in a shieldless TIE Interceptor means, one mistake and you are dead. To reach a good point score you must fly for around 15-20 mins (depending what kind of a high score you are aiming). This is the bad kind of hard. It is manageable once... you work your way through 40 TIE Interceptors. It took a lot of energy out, which unfortunately did not allow me to enjoy the rest of the missions as much as I otherwise would. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ On to Mission #2, this one while also difficult, at least you feel like your fortunes are in your own hands. On hard, you fly in a TIE Defender, and have to fight through a ton of fighters. Btw, Purple are the ones you should be shooting at, while the yellow ones are the pestilence. On easy, it is no sweat. On hard, be prepared to refly it a few times. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mission #3 is a picnic, except for one issue. You have to rush off and inspect all four capital ships, as one of them inexplicably dies at around the 5 minute mark. The first time around when that happened, there was no clear message as to why I failed. I carried on in the mission to understand what happened and after inspecting the other three noticed the 75% completion. Just don’t underestimate the X-wings and A-wings if you are playing it on hard. Oh and… don’t quit the mission once you have completed it. Fly back to the Frigate that came to pick you up. Typical XWA problem. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mission #4 Is an epic battle done right. And this accolade is not easily earned. There are some minor issues, but it manages to do what it sets out to do. It’s an epic battle of two opposing fleets and you are right in the thick of it, feeling as part of the fleet. It is unfortunate that the Missile Boat is not a good ship in XWA without its booster and the second set of warheads. Perhaps flying in a TIE Defender would have been better.

So, this COULD have been a good battle, but it isn't. Missions are poorly created, confusing, and generally unpleasant to play. If this wasn't for a competition, I'd have tried it once and given up. Not even worth the FCHG points.

I did not like this battle at all. It was dull and uninteresting on easy mode (sorry, I suck at piloting...that is why I am an admiral!). Then, suddenly, on the last mission it gets insanely hard even on easy mode where you have to try to blow up a Calamari Cruiser and two Victory-class Star Destroyers in a single missile boat with pathetically useless computer AI assistance. I ended up just turning the cheats on to get through it because it was taking forever and I had stuff to do ;) One issue – the second mission was confusingly bugged and not clear. The objectives tell you to destroy your drones and prevent enemy drones from being destroyed. They are serious. You literally have to blow up the flight group that says “Theirs” instead of “Yours,” so using R to target the nearest enemy is not helpful. You have to cycle through and manually pick the correct flight group to blow up. Hope this helps in the future.

COL Phalk Sturm

This could have been a classic mission for competitions and training, if not for using the useless MIS mk.II which has no defensive warheads, no beams and no SLAMs. It is sad to see how the best fighter of old times was slaughtered into a faster and heavier yet less dogfighting capable T/B. Besides that, the rest of the missions were fun to fly and very challenging. With a minor tweaking this campaign could become a classic golden hit.

CM Wodi Untok

Really fun but the last mission was a drag - friendly ships were not much help. I finally had to turn on unlimited ammo to get through the capital ships. Instructions were a little unclear on mission two, but I figured it out after a few tries.

GN Master

Four good comp missions. Each mission is different and you can get lots of points if your good enough >:)

Battle Bug Reports

Various bugs detected.
Beta Report written and submitted to TAC.
Repairs in progress.

LC andr3

Mission 3 expects you to land on M/FRG Savior which only arrives later. If you quit after having completed all mission goals and having received the victory message you fail. If landing on a frigate (that you do not even know exists yet) is a compulsory goal you should not get a victory message.

Mission 2: Opponent's drones attack you as well, likewise your drones attack the opponent.
