Battle Reviews

I thought it was a well made battle, with nice bits of history to reminisce about (EHBL drama! BubbaX as Relentless COM!)

I did find the capital ships in mission 1 to be pretty brutal with the shuttles you were supposed to protect, but otherwise found it to be a pretty balanced battle, if a touch tricky at times.

I really enjoyed the story and the missions in this battle. I especially liked the integration of the emails into the overall story without the story actually needing the emails to make sense.

I rather enjoyed this one. Both the plot and the missions were enjoyable - simple, but well-made. Nothing was particularly remarkable, but it kept things fast-paced and fun, despite a pretty short length of the battle.

It is alright. Nothing spectacular, nothing bad. I think all that can be said about this battle has been said in the other reviews.

The person who crafted this battle, clearly knows what he is doing in both the good ways and the ... bad ways. It's a very fun battle to fly, despite its occasional frustrations and dempsey-like difficulty (on hard). The briefings are good, the play is decent and the capital ships actually fire back at you. The timings are quite tight which led to few reflies. Furthermore on the one hand it gives you choices but on the other it is crafted in such a way that you don't really have much choice. Example in mission #4, you can choose any missile you want, but if you choose anything but mag-pulse your Assault Transports will die. Unless of course you want to outright destroy the platform, but that wont get you a good score. Overall, it is enjoyable and well-crafted. In some cases however, the bonus objectives are suspect. Given that the rest of the battle is so well-crafted it leads me to believe the specific bonus goals are 'cheats' for people familiar with it (friends of the creator?) or at best a replayability mechanism for high-score chasers. I will not reveal the shenanigans but I did run into at least three of them. Enough to know everything is deliberate. I like hard battles and this one is challenging, hence the high grade regardless.

I played on Easy. I actually really enjoyed these fights. The first mission seems really hard, the rest were pretty simple. That said, I felt like the missions were fairly varied and included a lot of capital ships. It was more than your garden variety 'kill endless waves of dumb starfighters'.

EDIT - I played this again as part of Hammer Tour of Duty. My original comments stand. That said, I found that mission 4 doesn't play nice with XWAU. I believe the sizing of the Platforms may be different than in XWA and this causes your mission critical Shuttle to die almost immediately.

This battle was ridiculously easy and short but I thought it was still pretty fun. All of the missions really boiled down to keep a vague eye on your Assault Transports while blowing away ships left and right. I know I am in the minority but I love the battles that are basically shooting galleries…this battle was certainly a target rich environment! Bonus points to the mission creator, who named one of the T-wing flight groups Tumadre. Very nice. The story line was at least believable – a technological upgrade mission gone awry, with the New Republic always poking its nose in where it does not belong. Big surprise there. And some very sketchy pirates attempting to purchase sophisticated Imperial military equipment, not really a big surprise there. Overall, not a bad battle. You blow up Rebels and pirates and you defend the Empire, what more can you ask for? Nothing!

Also known as 'the EH hunts for an Astromech droid', prepare for all sorts of adventures as you hunt down a wayward droid across the galaxy in a wide variety of craft. Loses 1pt for making you fly the ship of sadness (MIS) in the final mission.

A nice simple battle, following the trail of a fleeing spy. It has a good amount of dogfighting, disable and capture, protecting craft and the never-fade-away bombing runs in the Missile Boat. You will have to fly almost everything that is fun to fly in the Imperial inventory, even a Gunboat. Recommended for 4 challenging yet direct 4 points in a simple story

I knew as soon as I saw those stacked and rotated platforms that this must be an Ender mission—even though the goals were pretty straightforward. No issues completing these missions, and the missions were pretty standard and enjoyable.

Well put together battle, with plenty of enjoyable scraps with starfighters and capships. Good stuff!

great set of missions, all playable and interesting nothing dull ever happens. the only problems i can think of are that on the first mission the shuttles are too close together and this makes them harder to defend and the 3rd mission its a bit hard to protect yourself and the ATRs.

I thought the battle was hard but worth playing. Keep up the good missions like this one.Nice one Ender.

Another nice battle Ender, however i think you should look better for ships orders - in second mission i needed to shot gun turrets of my own ATR to make it dont destroy Mission Critical Craft with who it should dock.

Mission 1: Messages about shuttle ballista 1-1 plays when the shuttle isn't under attack. Bonus for R2 being acquired by the CORT Ray of Light is only awarded if shuttle Ballista 1-4 is destroyed. Enemy fighters will crash into the Relentless upon exiting the hangar of the Justice due to close proximity to each other.

I believe you need a patch if you select Gunboats in missions 3 and 4. Selecting the Gunboats in a stock version of XWA doesn't let you fire lasers/ions. If you try to fire lasers/ions, you get a message saying that you need to open your S-Foils, but pressing the button tells you that you don't have S-Foils.

Description
-----------
A rogue Dark Jedi gets hold of an Astromech containing valuable EHBL data at a transfer
involving the ISDII Relentless. The Command Staff orders the Relentless and its Battle
Group to hunt the Astromech down and retreive it before it falls into New Republic hands.

Story Line
----------

[Read the Storyline.htmls in your /Misc folder for the background story.]

Mission1:
To prevent enemy factions listening in on our communications we obviously utilize variable
encryption on all messages. However, these encryption formats need to be changed regularly
to prevent giving anyone the time to break it. Previously this process was done manually by
all officers themselves, which is obviously vulnerable to leaks and very dependant on trust.
To solve this matter the Tactical Office asked the Science Office to device a more
automatic and secure system, which resulted in the "EHBL Machine" - basically a black box
that can be hooked up to any transmission device that not only encrypts the messages but
also alternates the encryption automatically.
Now all Emperor's Hammer craft need to be equipped with the new encryptor, and within a
short time because a transitional time gives our enemies more chance to break even this
system.

Mission2:
All kinds of things went wrong at the delivery of the new EHBL Machines to the ISDII
Relentless. Not only did we have to completely reinstall the software of various craft
(and some still have problems) it also seemed that many of our crew need complete
re-schooling to work with it effectively.
Oh, and we had that attack by the NR Spine Security Force on our delivery craft - which
was not that big a problem for Wing IX. However something did go very wrong in that battle,
because our Dark Brotherhood contacts inform us that a rogue Dark Jedi somehow got her
hands on an Astromech droid that carries vital information.
We are hot on her trail though, which has leaded us to the neighbouring neutral Genko
System. Here she probably hopes to sell off the Astromech to the Genkoan Dons - which is
about the same as to the entire Galaxy because of their trade ethics.

Mission3:
Although Sword Squadron was successful in catching the rogue Dark Jedi just before she
actually reached the Genko System, it seems that the damage has already been done: The
Intelligence Division has reported to us that the Genkoans and the NR Spine Security Force
have arranged a meeting about "Crypto logical Breakthroughs."
Obviously we do not want this deal to go through: most of our craft have now been equipped
with the new encryption and it would be a serious blow to our security (if not our budget
and sanity) if the New Republic got their hands on it.
Dagger, Crossbow and Arrowhead Squadrons will hyper to the location of the meeting, a
civilian platform on the far end of the Minos Cluster, and capture all craft involved in
the deal. We need the crews to make sure we have actually stopped the spread of the
information.

Mission4:
After the right amount of physical motivation the captured crew of the Genkoan Shuttle
disclosed the location of the Astromech droid that carries the encryption data. They also
ensured us that no copies had been made because so far the Genko System has not been able
to crack the Astromech's own encryption.
The Astromech is being held at a lightly defended modified Genkoan Base near Pyrath. We
again want to capture it in tact to make sure we finally have all the data back. Disabling
the platform conventionally will however most likely also destroy that data.
This end the crew of the Genkoan Shuttle we captured earlier have been sufficiently
brainwashed by the Science Office to fly back to their Base and just disable its weaponry
from the inside. The moment that happens we will launch transports to capture it.

NOTE
-------------------
You need XWA (or at least all the ships involved there) AND the S-Foils Patch for XWA.
Make sure you all have the update by lucasarts installed.
