Pink Lollipop 2002 - Worst XvT battle of 2001

Battle Reviews

Enjoyable heavy assault action against Rebel cap ships with a variety of targets, sadly let down with some minor bugs, and the unsurprising appearance of Rogue Sqdn. Definitely one to play with friends, as relying on AI to achieve some objectives is optimistic, to say the least. Plus one point for letting you fly a TIE/SA

It is not a very enjoyable battle, but at the same time there is not much wrong with it. Fly it for completion points. Be warned the last mission has a long wait until that ISD hyperspaces home!

It feels bad to say this, since it is a mBender battle, but I have to ascertain the utter nightmare this is. Tedious, boring and frustrating will not be enough to summarize the many flaws in this campaign. Flying a GUN is always a pleasure, but doing it solo and without beams is always a lot of pain. Besides, some missions seem like an exact copy of vanilla XvT engagements. You will be always underloaded and unable to recover shields at a safe speed. Objectives are confusing, and there are long travels to cover before most of the engagements, roughly 15 km in every mission. One particular mission sees your ISD hypering out after 18 minutes of dead waiting. A total mess. No wonder it had the Pink Lollipop. Well deserved award, if you ask me. RtF players, avoid this one like a spider in your underwear.

All missions in a gunboat even if you do not need ion cannons. So either play it on easy and it is real easy or play it on a higher difficulty and get missiles rained upon you in a sluggish gunboat.

Sorry Ender, but your first battle absolutely sucks. Mission 1 is a direct copy from the TIE Mission where you have to capture the Dimok and Ripoblus leaders. Mission 2 has really long transition times, but isn't that bad. Mission 3 IS TERRIBLE. 17 clicks to your target...not fun. Plus, you have to sit there babysitting the stupid ATR to make sure it doesn't get destroyed during its 2 minute trip to the CRV, 2 minutes of docking and 3 minute hyper time...hello, my jaw nearly fell off from yawning...of course, if you go AFK, some damn A-Wings rape the ATR. How nice. Not. Prime example on how not to make a battle.

The first version was released as my first battle ever, and made to train Krayt Pilots in co-op bombing missions. The Battle was submitted for the first "ASF: Supremacy Competition" of may 2000 and then held up in testing for one and a half years before being released w/o any changes. In 2002 This battle earned the "Pinky Lollypop" for being the Worst XvT Battle of 2001, which was weird (as it rated two times as high as the other choice, and was from 2000) but fairly to be expected for a first made battle, one that was made in for Co-Op in a SP environment and all that. This second release is aimed at pleasing the comments made about this battle over the past 3 years. It features an actual storyline, is no longer a collection of converted Totally Games rebel missions. The Co-Op element stayed, as that's finally started to pick up in the TC, but the battle has been made easier for the Single Player Pilot. All the craft of the original missions are there, doing about the same things - just done up to avoid bugs and to look better. I've also added things that were planned originally already, but were't possible then - like the Luggage Patch. As George Lucas once said: "A movie is never finished, only abandoned"

not bad not bad at all

Horrible. That word sums it all up. In Mission 3, where you must destroy the Calmari Cruiser, and then disable the CRV, the Gunboats in Two Flight are out of line. They destroy the CRV! I had to refly the mission about a dozen times before taking them out. Just copying missions from XvT is pretty poor, and the rest of the missions were so easy, it just didn't cut it.

Nice set of missions - 2.9 These mission's need a bit more than just a quick fire trigger. Thought and planning is also required and in some cases self discipline. I only wish the designer would have done the same when setting some of the flight-group orders. But then that's what happens when you try and clone a commercial mission

We can grab a MoT by taking missions that are already made, changing craft to make them Imperial, and maybe tweaking a little for balance? The mission against the Rebel CRVs is ALREADY IN XvT! Destroy Rebel Convoy Athega. The only difference is you have to destroy all the CRVs in this battle. The missions are fine, but I cant give this anything other than a 0 when you take a mission created by Totally Games and do nothing but make the goals a little tougher.

Nice set of missions - format becomes a tad boring after a while, and a small bug in mission 3, could leave the play wanting.

Hi i flew this mission and found a way around that fatal flaw i jus disabled it myself :P hee hee lost me a ship mind but nottin major oh well 5 from me enjoyable and gave the gunboat a good rep for once good job Jax

nice example of a good battle, shame you have to fly GUN's though :P

I really enjoyed this battle, it fixes a rebel-slanted favortism in the XvT training and gives us Imperials true assault missions. If there's any negative it's that Mission 3 is a little on the tough side. I'd definitely recommend that multiple players sim this together for true training and effect.

Battle Bug Reports

CM Von Goosington

2024-08-14

Bugs
Mission 01
a. TIE/SAs have 'return to Luggage or Luggage' appear if they try to activate hyperdrives

Mission 02
a. Obj to destroy the station appears incorrectly as 'Destroyed: Shuttle Sharky'
b. Obj to scan Shuttle Sharky incorrectly appears as 'Destroyed: Shuttle Sharky'

Mission 03
a. Audio files "Message from our base..." updates relating to (I believe) the Rebel Starport and containers.

Mission 04
a. Mission brief is to destroy all corvettes, but "Mission Complete" trigger fires if Flight Group 'Shop' (3x Corvette) is still active.

Mission 05
a. Once the Intrepid jumps, the TIE/SA pilot slots have nowhere to land, forcing them to quit to end the mission rather than dock.

GN Dunta Polo

Mission 1: Enemy FRGs do not attack the M/FRT Luggage even when it is firing on them.

Mission 2: If the Rebel Captain is killed before reaching the R&D FC asteroid, the in-flight message stating the captain's shuttle is fleeing said base still appears - despite the shuttle already being destroyed and thus not able to appear later at the R&D asteroid.

Mission 3: Rebel containers and base are flagged incorrectly as Imperial for objective voice messages.

(1) this thing needs a patches.txt (2) there's a prob in mission 2 with the "kill the captain" goal. It completes when you destroy the R&D Fac while the captain is actually on the shuttle

Original Battle Story
---------------------

[View Plotline.txt for the new story and craft assignments.]

In X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, the "Heavy Assault" part of missions flying
is mostly given to the Rebels. The Imperials are left with just two 8
player CO-OP Training Missions. I converted the Rebel 8 player missions
to Imperial 8 Player Missions. But I didn't just change the sides, I
also adapted the Craft types, Options, Mission Goals etc. etc. to make
them harder and more variable and esp. more directed to Krayt Squadron
and the TIE corps in general. The First Mission is an elaborate edit
of an old TIE Fighter Mission.

[Randomise] will offer you many different missions for when you have
"done" the basic versions. All craft and squadrons "exsist" in the
Emperor's Hammer, Rebel Squadrons or Renegade Wing.

krayt1.tie Description
----------------------
Flight 1 will capture the leaders of rival factions during a meeting,
while Flight 2 will teach both factions not to mess around with the
Empire by destroying their Fighter Carriers.
[Randomise On] will change the Capital Ships and all enemy fighters.
Imperial Players: Assault Gunboats (8)

krayt2.tie Description
----------------------
Krayt Squadron has been given the easy task of taking out an Calamari
Cruiser with just their Assault Gunboats. Flight 1 is to destroy the
fighter defences, while Flight 2 is to destroy the Cruiser and its
support craft.
[Randomise On] will have effect on the Cruiser and the support Craft.
Imperial Players: Assault Gunboat (8)

krayt3.tie Description
----------------------
The Corvette Tantive IX, transporting Rebel Alliance leaders, has been
located docked in the loading bay of the Calamari Cruiser Liberty. Help
Krayt forces in a daring Special Opps Mission to capture this Corvette
and destroy their comrades by leading an assault on the CRS.
[Randomise On] will change Capital Ships and Z95 Headhunters.
Imperial Players:
Flight 1 Krayt Squadron (Attack/Escort) -Assault Gunboat (2), TIE Advanced (2)
Flight 2 Krayt Squadron (Attack/Disable) - Assault Gunboat (4)

krayt4.tie Description
----------------------
Asp scouts have located a large Rebel convoy which is relatively
undefended. To inflict as much damage to the Rebellion as possible,
destroy the entire convoy of Corellian Corvettes before they make it
to their hyperspace point.
[Randomise On] will have effect on the Convoy.
Imperial Players: Assault Gunboat (8)

krayt5.tie Description
----------------------
While returning from a mission in Rebel territory, the Interdictor
Spot o'Glue was sabotaged by Rebel Spies. Its gravity well projectors
are no longer able to switch off, making it impossible for the ISD
Intrepid, that was escorting the Spot o'Glue, to hyper . Now the rebels
have arrived to take advantage of the situation - High Command has
decided to evacuate and destroy the Spot o'Glue before the Fleet also
loses the Intrepid.
[Randomise On] will have effect on the Capital Ships.
Imperial Players: Assault Gunboat (4), TIE Advanced (4)

- version 2:
