The plot is solid and well-written and the missions were well designed. Flying new craft is always fun ! This is a short but sweet battle.
My sixth battle in the TIE Corps.

Good battle four mission battle! This one was enjoyable from both a plot and gameplay perspective. The briefings are well structured, with some interesting animations that I don't recall seeing before. There is plenty of background information available from the Flight Officer and/or README. In the gameplay, there is an assortment of different mission types. Incorporation of the V-Wing made playing the battle a different experience, whether you were fighting them using Imperial ships, or flying using one in the later missions. On hard difficulty, it definitely takes some work to clear out the enemy fighters. Overall well done!

i really liked this battle, mainly because of the inclusion of the v-wing which reminds me of the days from rogue squadron. The missions were really thought out and i enjoyed the dialogue which really filled the immersion aspect for me

A simple four mission battle based around the plot of discovering a new breed of star-fighter.
The mission briefings and officer text are well written and progress the story well.
The in mission communications are excellent though, and well worth paying attention to when flying the mission.
The campaign starts with a simple patrol that soon sees the story line escalate into a hunt for a secretive new fighter craft.
I found the missions to be lacking, they were very easy to complete and very to the point. Sadly, this lead me to feel like the battle was flat and missing something.

Well, the use of the V-Wing was a nice touch. We usually get stories of new imperial tech being robbed by the rebels, it is fun to see inverted roles for a change. On the technical department the mission is 100% flyable so no complains there at all. Mission design was decent, ofc it can be improved a bit but overall I liked it. As for the dialog I loved how it is handled between pilots. Developing characters is a wonderful way to get players into the storyline and should be further explored, could use some work on developing the interaction with the briefing officer's questions tho. The gameplay itself is decent although it tends to fall a bit into the endless dogfight for a moment...which is good for HS but when you want to process the battle as quick as possible, becomes somewhat tiresome. Overall, 4/5

Good battle with some minor flaws. The briefings are well made and the missions serve their purpose well. The gameplay is generally good, but the missions themselves have some oddities. A couple minor bugs here and there, and some ugly goal string formatting, but fully playable. Scoring is somewhat easy, but takes some investment of time due to an above-average amount of fighters to destroy, while also contending with the usual issues that arise from the AI habits in the game engine. The primary objectives are easy enough, though. The V-Wing is an interesting craft to fly, it definitely has a unique feel compared to stock Imperial and Rebel fighters that would normally be flown in these games. There's plenty of dogfighting versus the craft to showcase both how it handles from a player perspective, and as an enemy combatant. If a standard craft were flown instead, this would be a firmly average, but overall it stands out as one of the more unique battles so far.

When I was doing Project Shield part of the work was removing unneeded and/or outdated patches, but TIE-TC#39 came with one I had never seen before: the V-Wing. As the battle was released in 1996, that made it the earliest reference to this craft ever. However, the patch had been disabled by an earlier TAC project (Probably because it only worked on the TIECD version and had only very limited changes to the craft it replaced) so I removed it from the battle and stored it for future reference. A year later I completed the V-Wing OPT (and cockpits) and rebuilt the patch for both TIECD and TIE95 using the original stats by Micck Emrys (almost, i removed the standard shields and hyperdrive.) so I wanted to re-enable the patch in TIE-TC#39 (by just hanging the craft type really.) It was then that I actually first laid eyes on the battle - and was shocked to see how much had changed in missioncreation since 1996: It had virtually no radiomessages, waypoints or briefings and even still included parts of text from the original TIE Fighter mission it was based upon. At this point I asked permission from the Tactical Office to upgrade the battle completely to current standards while re-adding the patch. About every aspect was changed to get better results in TIE - however great care was taken to retain the same atmosphere as the original version had.

This places the ISDII Relentless in a very bad position so the M/FRG Fogger is on its way to repair it. You are to protect both the ISDII Relentless and the M/FRG Fogger during this operation. In other news, we have gained information that Rebels have made an advanced, spacegoing, version of their V-Wing airspeeders. Be on the lookout for any of these. Mission 2: As Intel had suspected, the new V-Wing version was used in the assault on the ISDII Relentless. This new craft looks just like the old V-Wing, and our scanners will pick it up as such. They have new "V-class" engines, and are also shielded. Be alerted! The Science Office would very much like to take a closer look at these new craft, so you are to scout the sector for any rebel V-wings, and if any are encountered, to capture them. Especially the Infiltrator Wing could do very well using them. Mission 3: Tracing the hyperspace lines of the Rebels in the previous mission, we think we have located the source of the recent rebel incursions: A Rebel Dreadnaught hiding in a small asteroid field near by. This Dreadnaught Master and its two escorting Carrack Cruisers from flightgroup Disser must be destroyed. Using standard V-Wings, the Science Office has been able to whip up some of these new V-Wings and this assault would be a good chance to check them out. In case these protypes fail in some way we have M issile Boats and TIE Advanced flying along. Mission 4: The Science Office research on the V-Wings is complete. While still not particulary well armed, it is quite fast and well protected. However the shield generator and hyperdrive are both quite complicated and expensive. We suspect that the production version will lack these features. It also appears that they have an extremely long range hyperdrive, and we have decided to make good use of this unexpected ability. Using this special hyperdrive, you will attack a rebel training platform deep inside New Republic space, and completely destroy it. NOTE ------------------- You need TIECD/95 (or at least all the ships involved there) AND the V-W for TIE.
